We have been talking about creating learning organizations since before Peter Senge brought the idea to popular attention in 1990. Now it’s time to get serious about it and bring a new concept of a dynamic enterprise into today’s more technological, global, fast-changing, networked world.

Learning is now one of the most important processes in any business. Learning ensures that people’s capabilities match the work challenges, supports quick and fearless recognition of problems and opportunities, and fuels innovation. Learning is also part of what makes work engaging—and thus is vital for attracting and retaining talent. But mindsets, systems, structures, language, incentives, and skills haven’t evolved with the changing world. We need to rethink what it means to be a learning enterprise—and how to get there.

In this webcast, Pat McLagan will describe the concept of Learning 4.0 from her just-released book, Unstoppable You: Adopt the New Learning 4.0 Mindset and Change Your Life. Based on her decades of consulting and research, she will sketch the outline of the Learning 4.0 enterprise. And, she will help you explore what this means for your work as a learning professional and for the people and organizations you serve.

You will benefit most from this webcast if you are passionate about creating high-performance enterprises and helping people learn—and if you have read or scanned Unstoppable You.

In May, ATD published Pat McLagan’s new book, Unstoppable You: Adopt the New Learning 4.0 Mindset and Change Your Life. This book captures Pat’s spirit of looking at learning from the learner’s perspective. Her view is that learners’ capabilities, confidence, and self-image in learning need a radical change for them to thrive in a world of proliferating resources, information overload, artificial intelligence, and many other paradigm-shifting forces. The learning professional can only do so much through program and system design and performance coaching. It’s up to the learners to learn whenever and wherever they are—in the classroom, online, in experiences, and through reading.

Pat has written about participation and self-management before: On-the-Level: Performance Communication That Works focuses on shared responsibility communication, Change Is Everybody’s Business helps readers learn about their role in change, The Age of Participation: New Governance for the Workplace and the World looks at the systemic issues of participation, and The Shadow Side of Power: Lessons for Leaders looks closely at leaders’ use of power. She has now set her sights on helping to empower learners in all learning situations by creating unstoppable learners.

She has received awards for thought leadership, worked on strategic learning and leadership issues all around the world, and served in professional leadership roles, including on the ATD board.
